“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery”
-Mark Van Doren
I have had the honor of working on the faculties of Otterbein University, Kean University, and the New York Film Academy in their Musical Theatre Conservatory as well as guest lecturing/directing at Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music (CCM), Pace University, the University of Michigan and Yale University. Helping fellow artists to recognize and harness their own potential has long been a passion, and whether working within the formal parameters of higher education or working privately with actors, I find a singular thrill in being even a small part of an actor’s process of discovery.
I am available for private coachings via Zoom or face to face when I travel. If you are looking to enhance your repertoire or breathe fresh life into familiar material, let me help you! Action-based, dynamic moment-to-moment storytelling is always the goal, and I’m here and happy to help to guide you there.

“Thom is an incredible director. He provides space for actors to explore and grow in their characters while giving a clear framework for what each person needs to accomplish in each scene. I always felt so comfortable and able to do my best work with him. I thank god he trusted me enough to cast me in his production of “Little Women.” He is not only a wonderful director, but also an incredible performer and human. I was lucky enough to see him in The Lion King on Broadway and he has inspired me and taught me so much about living in a moment, staying kind, and being a consummate professional.”
“Thom has coached me on numerous pieces as well as directed me in my senior year of college. His ability to know a piece, and articulate what needs to happen to execute YOUR best version of the piece is where he excels. His demeanor and ability to communicate creates the most welcoming environment where true creativity can really thrive.”
“Thom was an absolute gift to the theatre department at Otterbein. His refreshing perspective, real world experience and attention to detail were keys to how set up for success we felt going into our Senior Showcase in NYC. Our acting class and each one that followed benefited tremendously from Thom’s musical theatre coaching.”
“My time in Thom’s class brought me the most growth I’ve experienced in any class as an actor. His relentless pursuit of what is truthful, and the ability to hold me to bring present, defines my approach to acting to this day. I’m grateful for his depth of knowledge and keen sense of how to guide an actor to make their own discoveries. After many years, he remains the strongest acting voice in my head, and to have trained under him has been a privilege. ”
